How RGB made it possible for Shalom TV to have a competitive edge

Essel Shyam Communication Ltd.'s Shalom TV debuted as an independent channel in March 2005. The channel, further expanded in publishing media including Shalom Times, Shalom Tidings and Sunday Shalom. The channel has expanded its operation worldwide, including United Kingdom and North America.

They were successful in expanding to an SD playout solution from Kozhikode, Kerala, later in 2009. The original equipment installed for this purpose could not address future Broadcast standards, so the search began for systems that would take the production facility into the HD workflow. Planning, developing, and integrating the technological migration were contracted out to RGB in order to achieve the goal.

The main challenge we faced was in switching from their existing setup, convincing & guiding them about the advantages of the new system by providing training for adapting the HD workflow. RGB has designed the HD Playout Facility for the 3-channel setup and Ingest Facility. Migration from old Playout to new Playout needed to go without a frame Break. The infrastructure include: -

• Harmonic Media Deck Server for the 3-channel playout plus ingest facility
• Polaris Play Ingest Software
• Ross NK-3G34 Router
• Ross OG3-FR-CN frame and Glues
• EMC Isilon Storage

Entire Installation, Integration and trainings were completed within Stipulated Time Frame. RGB has provided support Staff for smooth operation after installation insuring seamless handover and trainings.

After Migrating to the HD workflow, there was a dynamic change in the quality of the visuals. It also resolves some of the critical issues compared to the Old Playout. The Polaris Play Ingest has a feature to Preload up to 50 contents. So even if the Client machine gets crashed or if there is a power failure the operators will get 2-3 hrs time to resolve the issue.
