Over the years, Tata Communications Limited (TCL) has carved itself a niche in broadcast production. This has enabled it to pursue technological means that allow for the capitalization of upcoming sporting events through live broadcasting. But lacking a portable broadcast unit (PBU) of its own, TCL had to resort to other options, namely, borrowing broadcast components from multiple sources. The negatives of this soon followed, with the company facing a lack of independence from partners and experiencing limited control and visibility on inventory.
With its need for purpose-built live production fly away kits becoming evident, TCL now sought out the expertise of RGB Broadcasting. And RGB, with its vast experience in delivering unique broadcasting solutions, was happy to step in.
The intricacies of the Tata PBU Project were carefully planned out, with TCL and RGB chipping in with their respective responsibilities. The client provided a high-level design and the core items it wanted to be integrated into the PBUs. Meanwhile, as a leader in system integration, RGB brought its exceptional service standards to the table. Through its affiliations with prominent technology partners, RGB successfully procured the non-core hardware required by the client. It also expertly handled the PBU wiring and its integration and ensured the completion of all labeling. Finally, RGB helped configure the essential connectivity to test signal flow in the PBUs and provided the necessary documentation and low-level designs.
Since RGB had built its PBUs with the goal of effortlessly matching varying client requirements, it could satisfactorily meet TCL's needs. This customized service ultimately supplied the client with nine ready-to-use PBUs, empowering it to efficiently deliver broadcasting solutions from across the globe. So, through the coverage of live sporting events such as the Indian Premier League (IPL), Indian Super League (ISL) and others, TATA Communications can now deftly cater to its varied customers and expand its reach to newer ones.
